Arlo Braund is a dedicated and experienced sailing coach who brings together international racing experience and a strong background in youth development. Having competed at youth level internationally, he now draws on over four years of coaching experience working with young sailors across a variety of classes and programmes.
Arlo’s coaching philosophy is rooted in the balance between technical precision and personal development. He believes in building sailors’ understanding of the “why” behind performance — helping them develop independent thinking, adaptable decision-making, and confidence both on and off the water.
His approach combines first-hand racing insight with the lessons learned from working across a broad range of teams, skill levels, and timescales — from short-term regatta support to long-term progression planning. Arlo has coached across many junior and youth classes, including the Topper, Tera, Feva, Cadet, ILCA, 420, and 29er, supporting sailors as they transition between classes and progress through structured training pathways.
Known for his calm, analytical style and clear communication, Arlo focuses on creating an environment where sailors can learn through reflection, experimentation, and challenge. Whether developing race tactics, refining boat handling, or fostering team cohesion, his sessions are designed to bring out each sailor’s potential while keeping the experience enjoyable and purposeful.
Arlo continues to expand his knowledge through active involvement in performance sailing and continual professional development with the RYA, ensuring his coaching remains relevant, evidence-based, and aligned with the evolving demands of modern youth sailing.
